Happiness Is...

Lisa has been growing her herding business by leaps and bounds. She has recently named her business BITTERBRUSH Kennel & Livestock. A new Website will be forming soon. You can see her logo on the Home Page. She has been growing all of her stock, with over 70 head of sheep, and 10 plus goats. She works at two ranches in Gardnerville, and watch out, because one of those ranches has lights, so there is no reason to stop herding just because it is nighttime.

Feb. 20 & 21, 2010, she held a clinic called Herding 101. The weather did not cooperate on the 21st, so a fun day will be held at a later date. There were over 20 participants in attendance. No dogs were used except for demonstration. The participants at the clinic learned from Lisa how to move stock, terms, pressure, lift, and what a judge will look for in a trial. Lisa also demonstrated what the dog sees and how they respond to commands. All of the participants found out how sensitive the stock is to their pressure. Everyone had a chance to work in pairs to find out how the stock reacts, one person being the handler, and the other being the dog or some worked as brace teams. There were a lot of laughs, but Lisa made sure plenty of points were made, such as the flight zone of the stock, and what happens when someone uses their body to block geese from going into the pen.

Below are some of the props used for the clinic. Little did Lisa know that her Border Collie would be pink. The sheep were dubbed John, Paul, George, and Ringo. The pink Border Collie was named Sweet Pea.
